Country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki said it has sold 1.34 lakh vehicles in October, a growth of 29.1 percent compared to 1.04 lakh vehicles sold in corresponding quarter of last fiscal. The growth was driven largely by compact cars (especially Baleno that was launched on October 26) and exports.
Company's domestic sales increased by 24.7 percent to 1.21 lakh vehicles and exports shot up 90.4 percent to 13,146 vehicles.
Compact cars sales (Baleno, Dzire, Celerio, Swift and Ritz) shot up 37.7 percent to 51,048 units in October, which helped passenger vehicles rise 21.5 percent to 97,951 units compared to year-ago period.
Maruti sold 37,595 vehicles in mini cars segment (Alto, WagonR) and 3,418 vehicles in super compact cars segment (Dzire Tour), a growth of 5.2 percent and 142.8 percent year-on-year, respectively. However, SX4 and Ciaz sales (that comes in mid-size segment) dropped 7.2 percent to 5,890 units in same period.
The company said utility vehicles sales increased 56.5 percent to 9,435 units, adding it sold 13,677 vans in October, up 30.8 percent compared to year-ago period.
Gypsy, Ertiga, Grand Vitara and S-Cross come under utility vehicles category while Omni and Eeco are vans.
At 11:01 hours IST, the scrip of Maruti Suzuki India was quoting at Rs 4,488.95, up Rs 40.30, or 0.91 percent on the BSE.
