Fert cos may be allowed to hike DAP prices by over Rs 600/t

Fertiliser companies may soon get the freedom to hike maximum retail prices of Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) by more than Rs 600 a tonne as the fertiliser ministry is planning to move a Cabinet proposal in this regard.

Last month, the government had allowed companies to hike MRP of DAP by up to Rs 600 a tonne from Rs 10,750 a tonne existing then.
It had also increased the subsidy on DAP to insulate fertiliser companies from high global prices and ensure the nutrient is available at affordable prices to farmers.
"We have prepared a Cabinet proposal to withdraw the restriction imposed on fertiliser firms that they cannot increase MRP of DAP beyond Rs 600 per tonne. We are seeking views of the various ministries," a senior Fertiliser Ministry official told PTI.
