In what could be a big setback for Norwegian telecom giant Telenor, which is also a majority stakeholder in Uninor, the district court at Gurgaon has restrained the company from negotiating or participating in the 2G auction through any other entity other than Uninor, reports CNBC-TV18.
This order prohibits Telenor from partnering with any Indian company at the 2G auctions. An appeal against the order was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday.
Telenor, in an official statement, said, "The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed the Gurgaon district court to finalise its proceedings regarding Telenor's participation in the spectrum auctions before September 20. The next hearing at the Gurgaon district court will be on September 4. It is the Telenor Group's clear intention to establish a new company for the auction and we will continue to argue our case in court."
