Maruti hopes to produce 1,600 units at Manesar by mid-Oct

India's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki hopes to produce 1,600 units per day at its Manesar plant by mid-October, CNBC-TV18 reported on Monday.

The company had shut down production at Manesar for over a month, after a labour unrest there left a HR manager dead and several executives injured in July. Prior to the unrest, Maruti used to produce 1,700 vehicles a day at Manesar. Production resumed in August and output levels now touch 1,100 units at the plant, the report said. It started  the second shift at the plant on Sept 24. Following the unrest, Maruti Suzuki had said it will regularise contract workers at the plant and the exercise is well under way. Maruti employs 1,870 contract workers at Manesar and plans to hire 1,500 workers between Oct-Dec. Earlier on Monday, Maruti Suzuki reported a 10% year-on-year rise in total sales in September at 93,988 units. At 11:55 hrs, Maruti Suzuki shares were at Rs 1,368, up 1.3% from previous close, on NSE.
