Fire at plant: Hitachi Home is assessing the loss

A major fire broke out at a Hitachi plant in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Amit Doshi, executive director of Hitachi Home & Life Solution India says, as of now, the assessment has been done. "We are assessing the loss as of now. We will be able to give our estimates later on," he adds.

A major fire broke out at a Hitachi plant in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Amit Doshi, executive director of Hitachi Home & Life Solution India says, as of now, the assessment has been done. "We are assessing the loss as of now. We will be able to give our estimates later on," he adds.

He further says, production can move to the Jammu plant.

Below is the edited transcript of his interview with CNBC-TV18's Latha Venkatesh and Reema Tendulkar.

Q: What may have been the loss because of the fire?

A: We are assessing the loss as of now. We have unit number one and unit number two at Kadi. We have operations in Jammu also. The unit number two had caught fire.

Q: What percentage of your production that constitutes?

A: We have different products getting manufactured at different plant. So, we are assessing how to ensure that the two units that we have got along with the support from Hitachi Japan to redeem the situation.

Q: Until day before yesterday, what was the percentage of output that came from that plant?

A: Our rack production is from unit number two. But the season is over as of now. We are concentrating on other products right now.

Q: No estimate of the financial loss because of this?

A: As of now, the assessment has been done and we will be able to give our estimates later on.

Q: Can you move the production?

A: Yes, that is possible.
