EPCA asks SC to ban sale of BS-IV vehicles from April 2020

April 1, 2020 is the cut-off date imposed by the government to auto companies to migrate to BS-VI emission norms skipping the BS-V stage entirely.

The fight over BS-III vehicles has just ended in the Supreme Court but a new legal battle over BS-IV vehicles has now begun.

The Environment Pollution Control Authority has moved the Supreme Court asking for a ban on the sale of BS-IV vehicles from April 1, 2020, which is the cut-off date imposed by the government to auto companies to migrate to BS-VI emission norms skipping the BS-V stage entirely.

This has further upset the auto industry which has fiercely refuted this position and industry body SIAM has argued that this position is completely untenable and the manufacturers should be allowed to sell BS-IV vehicles post April 1, 2020.
