Aircel writes to DoT on 2G spectrum case

The Supreme Court (SC) last week directed Maxis promoters to present themselves before the Court failing which the 2G licence and the spectrum granted to Aircel would be cancelled. Sale of any spectrum by the company has also been stayed for the time being.The company has written to the Department of Telecom (DoT) seeking the recall of the SC order on the grounds that it was not accused in the case filed by a federal agency against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran. "We are in receipt of the SC observation and we respect the observation. However, we categorically deny and say that Aircel is not party to proceedings pending before the SC. No allegation against wrong doing has been made against the company and it hasn't been proven yet," the letter said. The company has sought legal advice on effects of SC order and as per the advice they are filing an appropriate application. Aircel can file an application asking SC to take their stance into congnisance and ensure the order when it comes out is not against the telco. It also hopes for no ban since that will jeopardise operations.Watch video for more...
