The DMK has been thrashed in Tamil Nadu and comeback queen Jayalalithaa is set to become chief minister for the third time after a gap of over a decade. The AIADMK-Left alliance is currently leading in close to 201 seats in the 234 seat assembly. CNBC-TV18's Siddhartha Zarabi reports on what implication the results may have on the ongoing 2G probe.
The main thing in terms of the 2G impact is going to be Kanmozhi appearance tomorrow at the trial court and a final order by the trial court sessions judge about here plea for being released on a bond. We have seen all those who have been accused so far in the CBI charge-sheet being remanded to judicious custody and the hearing is on her bail plea had concluded almost a week back and the matter goes posted for May 14. Clearly a coincide, because nowhere would anyone would want to say that the court posted the matter for final orders day after the election. It was just a coincidence. Also in part reason that Kanmozhi had to be in Chennai to appear before the income tax authorities.
The court impact really, the legal process being independent of whatever is happening in term of politics, but yes, one thing is very sure the fact that the DMK has lost a major bargaining ability by losing the State government and therefore all the consequent implications that arise out of it that will be an overhang.
On the broader business question, clearly this will be negative for several business groups including businesses owned by the DMK themselves. The key thing that people in DMK politics tell us about the 2G impact is that they believe that 2G scandal by itself did not lose them the State. What really happened was that the family got pulled apart due to the tension that was created by the 2G scandal and that is what led to this electoral debacle.
Therefore, they expect that to move into the business. The DMK and several family led fronts heavily invested in the cable business, heavily invested in movie production
