Reliance is all set to launch its breakthrough 4G platform by the end of the year. CNBC-TV18's Kritika Saxena learns that it has signed global tech major Cisco to create its core technological framework.
Instead of bringing out a pricing strategy where the company is slashing prices, RIL plans to have a similar pricing as Bharti. However, it will create a differentiated platform of music and video application. It will create a unique platform, something similar to iTunes. It is will be specialised with Reliance.
Sources say RIL has appointed Cisco to evaluate and develop a core technological framework. This should be done before year-end and December is technically the time period that RIL is estimating to get everything ready. There is a high-end team working within Cisco to create a platform for this. There will be a separate contract that will come out for handling the network equipment framework which probably Huawei and ZTE are looking at bidding for.
The strategy is to bring in the whole gamut of services -- Bharti probably has around three-four services -- RIL will bring in around 8-9 specialized services within that same price band. RIL will not be slashing prices as what was probably being estimated by several telecom analysts but there will be some set of differentiated services that they will be bringing out within that particular price band.
The network deal is expected to be quite significant above around USD 500-600 million. Details on that are expected shortly. More News On RIL
