Labour unrest at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant has led to a shut down of operations for the past few days, hurting the company’s production of diesel cars. So as to ensure that production is not hampered further, the management is considering to shift part of their production, probably the Swift and the Swift DZire, to their Gurgaon plant, reports CNBC-TV18’s Ronojoy Banerjee.
The management met yesterday afternoon at the Gurgaon facility to try and strategize the way forward because it doesn’t seem like the Manesar facility is going to resume operations anytime soon. What the management tried to discuss was how to ensure that the diesel production is not hampered. Remember, the Manesar facility is very important for Maruti because all the diesel cars barring the Ertiga is produced and manufactured there. Given the kind of diesel demand we have seen in the automobile sector, it becomes absolutely crucial that Maruti comes out with a solution soon. Conformation from the company is still awaited, but sources say that the company is considering moving a part production of the diesel vehicles to Gurgaon. This could be the Swift and the new Swift DZire diesel. The company had done something similar like this last time as well. The question now is whether this will be a temporary thing or more long term thing. More details on that will come over the next few weeks when the company meets for their board meeting, which is on the 28 of July.Discover the latest Business News, Sensex, and Nifty updates.
