Cab-hailing service provider Ola is in talks to buy food delivery brand Freshmenu, along with at least one other brand, a report by Mint suggests.
However, no deal has been agreed to yet with either of the brands, the report stated.
Ola has been in talks with private food brands since it acquired Foodpanda in late 2017. The company is reportedly exploring the possibility of creating an independent food technology company.
In December 2017, Old had bought the Indian arm of Foodpanda from its German parent company Delivery Hero. Ola had said that it would invest USD 200 million into the food-delivery company in a bid to expand its operations.
On April 3, Ola had purchased public transportation app Ridlr.
Besides being a cab aggregator and having a food delivery service in Foodpanda, Ola also has an e-wallet business called Ola Money.
Foodpanda’s rivals Zomato and Swiggy are in talks to raise more money, just a couple of months after the latest round of funding.
The fresh negotiations, which are still in the initial stage, come at a time when investors are eager to back food delivery startups.
The two leading food delivery startups are said to be in talks with at least three new investors. Zomato may raise between USD 200 million and USD 400 million, while Swiggy may raise around USD 200 million.
