Corsets have returned as the silhouette of the season, and this time, they’re leaning fully into old-world glamour with a modern, winter-ready twist. Whether worn for a winter soirée, a luxe cocktail night, or an intimate festive gathering, a well-styled corset can make you look poised, powerful, and undeniably glamorous.

What was once a symbol of vintage femininity is now the most coveted party piece for fashion lovers, thanks to its ability to sculpt an hourglass frame and instantly elevate even the simplest look. Fashionistas can bring vintage charm into winter parties by styling corsets with long skirts, fitted gowns, and old-world silhouettes. Cherry on top, add pearl accessories to give it a royal appeal.

Vintage inspo

When you combine vintage, glamour, winter, and parties in one thought, Christian Dior’s iconic silhouettes come to mind. Kolkata-based designer Rohan Pariyar believes a cinched waist paired with little black corsets naturally creates that sculpted hourglass silhouette. “Style it with a long, flowy skirt or a fitted one depending on the mood. Black remains my absolute favourite — elegant, versatile, and instantly glamorous. Pair it with pearls, a clean, polished hairdo, and most importantly, gloves. Gloves elevate the look from simply vintage to truly sophisticated,” he says.

This aesthetic is not limited to black. Jewel tones like deep ruby, emerald, metallic gold, or sapphire are having a moment this winter. These colours look particularly stunning when paired with dramatic skirts or structured gowns, transforming the look from party-ready to red-carpet-worthy. A slightly voluminous skirt adds movement and makes the ensemble feel like a grand winter soirée outfit.

Smart layering for the season

Winter dressing with corsets is all about striking the balance between drama and practicality. The smartest way to do it is by choosing corsets crafted from richer, warmer fabrics like wool, velvet, raw silk, or brocade. These textiles add depth, warmth, and an instant regal effect.

Outerwear should complement and not compete with the corset. Pariyar highlights, “For outerwear, a suede or velvet jacket or even a structured wool coat draped over the shoulders works beautifully. Tailoring details also help: high necklines, long sleeves, or slightly flared silhouettes offer warmth while enhancing the body’s natural shape. And one tip I stand by is to avoid corsets with cups for winter. Sleeker, cleaner corsets look more refined when layered and complement the overall vintage-glam aesthetic.”

Pearls: the royal finishing touch

Pearls are timeless and effortlessly royal, making them the perfect companion for winter corsetry. When styled intentionally, they elevate rather than overwhelm. To style them well, Pariyar shares, “Baroque pearls bring in an old-world, organic charm, especially when styled against a black corset so their irregular beauty stands out. A delicate pearl choker, on the other hand, is ideal for creating a soft, romantic vibe. Pair it with a simple corset and a flowy skirt to keep the look elegant without tipping into costume territory. The key is balance: let either the corset or the pearls be the highlight, never both at once.”
