The Tamil film industry is reeling from a major sandal after actor Srikanth was remanded in judicial custody until July 7 in connection with a cocaine possession case. The arrest has sparked a domino effect, uncovering a web of alleged drug use, political links, and celebrity involvement.
According to police reports, a search at Srikanth’s residence in Chennai led to the discovery of seven empty cocaine packets and one gram of the drug.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through Kollywood and allegedly exposed ties to influential figures, including former AIADMK executives, drug dealers, and other film personalities.
A senior police officer stated, “Srikanth has confessed to purchasing cocaine on 40 different occasions, spending approximately Rs 4.72 lakh in digital currency. He admitted to getting addicted after being exposed to the drug at parties.”
The investigation further revealed that Srikanth had links with former AIADMK executive and film producer Prasad, as well as alleged traffickers Pradeep Kumar from Salem and a Ghanaian national named John.
The ramifications have now expanded beyond Srikanth. As per a report by Times of India, two leading actresses and actor Krishna are also under investigation. One of the actresses is said to be the wife of a prominent businessman who is also active in politics. Another actress allegedly worked alongside two top stars in a recently released film.
An official involved in the probe revealed, “Actor Krishna has not responded to summons and is currently absconding, believed to be hiding in Kerala.” The authorities have intensified their efforts to locate him and bring all involved to justice.
Legal proceedings have already begun. “Cases have been registered against Srikanth under four sections of the Narcotics Control Act,” the police confirmed. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
Furthermore, law enforcement agencies are moving to freeze the assets of Prasad and another alleged associate, Ajay Vandayar. Investigators claim these individuals are connected not only to drug trafficking but also fraud, land grabbing, and cybercrimes. “This is not just a drug case; it is part of a larger criminal network that may span across industries,” said one officer on condition of anonymity.
As the investigation deepens, Kollywood is bracing for more high-profile names to emerge. “This is just the tip of the iceberg,” a source close to the probe commented. The Tamil film industry, already rocked by past controversies, now faces another test of accountability and transparency.
