Actor Dulquer Salmaan has been issued a notice by the Pathanamthitta Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Kerala, asking him to appear before it on December 3 in connection with a complaint involving Rose brand biryani rice, for which he is the brand ambassador.
According to a report by India Today, the notice stems from a petition filed by PN Jayarajan, a caterer from Pathanamthitta. He claimed that a 50 kg bag of Rose brand biryani rice he bought for a wedding function did not display any packing or expiry date.
The complaint further alleges that guests who ate the biryani made from the rice later suffered from food poisoning.
In the complaint, the managing director of Rose Brand Biryani Rice, the manager of Malabar Biryani and Spices (the shop from which the rice was purchased), and Dulquer Salmaan have been named as the first, second, and third accused, respectively.
The petitioner is seeking compensation of Rs 5 lakh for damages, along with Rs 10,250 for the cost of the rice and additional court expenses.
All three of the accused have been ordered by the commission to appear before it on the appointed day. The petitioner also mentioned that he decided to buy the rice because of the brand’s advertisements featuring Dulquer Salmaan, whose endorsement influenced his purchase decision.

The petition highlights that the complainant was persuaded by the actor’s promotional campaigns and advertisements in visual media when choosing the product.
