Filmmaker Uttam Maheshwari has recently sparked a debate on the internet with the announcement of a film based on Operation Sindoor amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
The announcement notably received a huge backlash on social media.
The filmmaker has now issued an official apology and claimed that he wanted to direct the project “not for fame and monetisation.”
While addressing the backlash, he claimed that he didn't want to "hurt or provoke anyone's sentiments.”
Uttam took to his Instagram Story and wrote, “My sincere apologies for recently announcing a film based on Operation Sindoor, inspired by the recent heroic efforts of our Indian Armed Forces. The intent was never to hurt or provoke anyone's sentiments. As a filmmaker, I was moved by the courage, sacrifice, and strength of our soldiers and leadership, and simply wished to bring this powerful story to light."
The filmmaker explained that the "timing and sensitivity may have caused discomfort or pain to some”, but the project was planned out of respect.
He added, “This project was born out of deep respect and love for our nation and not for fame and monetisation. However, I understand the timing and sensitivity may have caused discomfort or pain to some. For that, I deeply regret (folded hands emoji). This is not just a film, it's an emotion of the entire nation and a social image of the country globally.”
He concluded his apology note while expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces.
Uttam penned, “Thanks to our army and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, who make us proud by working day and night for the country with the motto of Always Nation First. Our love and prayers will always be with the families of the martyrs, as well as the Bravo warriors who are fighting on the border day and night to give us a new morning. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!”
Soon after issuing the official apology, the filmmaker went on to share a series of posts revealing that the production of Operation Sindoor is currently underway. He shared a photo of a laptop, hinting that the writers have already penned some scenes of the film.
Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films and The Content Engineer unveiled the upcoming film, Operation Sindoor, on Friday. The film's poster features a female soldier standing with her back turned, clad in uniform.
The poster showed a female soldier holding a rifle in one hand and applying sindoor (vermilion) to her forehead with the other, set against a backdrop of intense action elements like fire tanks, explosions, and fighter jets.

The film is said to be inspired by India's military operation against terrorist bases in Pakistan on May 6-7, in retaliation for the horrific Pahalgam terror attack.
