Fourth-generation girl group EVERGLOW is facing a wave of backlash after performing in Russia despite ongoing criticism and calls from fans to avoid the country due to the war in Ukraine.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, global audiences, including K-pop fans, have repeatedly urged entertainment companies to halt concerts and promotional activities in the country. With tens of thousands of civilian casualties and no resolution in sight, many netizens have argued that performing in Russia is inappropriate and insensitive.

The controversy escalated when EVERGLOW went ahead with their scheduled performance in Russia. Fans had previously submitted demands asking the company to cancel the show, citing ethical concerns and the global stance against the invasion.

Following the performance, social media erupted with disappointment and anger. Fans criticised the company for ignoring repeated pleas, but several also expressed that the group members were not entirely blameless, especially after videos surfaced of the members speaking and singing in Russian during the event.
