Filmmaker Aanand L. Rai brings back Heer, plans to build a 'love universe' on screen

Filmmaker Aanand L. Rai and his production house, Colour Yellow Productions, are set to revive a long-lost passion project—Heer. The Raanjhanaa director is once again on the lookout for his new muse for this modern-day adaptation of the timeless love story. Originally conceptualized in 2014, Rai had expressed his desire to create an ambitious and emotionally charged retelling of Heer Ranjha, a legendary romance that continues to inspire cinematic adaptations.

Now, after years on hold, the project is finally back on track. If industry buzz is to be believed, the filmmaker and his team plan to bring Heer to life by 2026, with a leading Bollywood actress set to headline the film. "The film is going to be from the female protagonist’s perspective, much like their projects Tanu Weds Manu, Haseen Dillruba, Atrangi Re and Nil Battey Sannata," stated the source.
