It doesn’t take much for social media to spiral, especially when it involves big Bollywood names — and this time, it’s Farah Khan and Deepika Padukone making headlines.
The long-time collaborators, who go way back to Om Shanti Om (2007), found themselves at the centre of a fresh round of speculation after fans notice1d they don’t follow each other on Instagram.
What started as a casual observation quickly snowballed into a full-blown rumour. Many assumed that Deepika had unfollowed Farah over the director’s light-hearted comments about her supposed 8-hour workday rule — something Farah has mentioned more than once in her recent YouTube vlogs.
Fuel was added to the fire when some sharp-eyed fans noticed Farah also appeared to have unfollowed Deepika’s husband, Ranveer Singh, although he still follows her.
But Farah has now addressed the buzz directly, putting an end to the speculation in her own straightforward way. Speaking to Pinkvilla, she said:
"To begin with, we were not following each other earlier, too!! We had made a pact during the Happy New Year shoot that we wouldn't communicate on Instagram, instead, direct message and call. We don't even wish birthday wishes on Insta because Deepika doesn't like it. Also, my 8-hour comment wasn't a dig; it was to make Dilip say that he will now also work 8 hours when he actually works just for 2 hours!"
Despite her explanation, fans are still sharing clips from her vlogs. In one, she jokes with actress Radhikka Madan about long shooting hours, saying, "Aise tapke hi toh sona banta hai."
In another, she teases actor Rohit Saraf, quipping, "Haan itna time toh Deepika Padukone ne nahi lagaya mujhe haan bolne mein." Even her cook Dilip joined in the banter, asking when Deepika would visit their show — prompting Farah to reply, "Deepika Padukone ab sirf 8 ghanta shoot karti hai, usko show pe aane ka time nahi hai."
The timing of all this comes just after reports claimed Deepika exited the Kalki 2898 AD sequel following disagreements over working hours, pay, and profit-sharing terms — though she hasn’t commented publicly.
For now, Deepika is back on set with Shah Rukh Khan for their upcoming film King — and Farah, it seems, is just having a bit of fun.
