Oscar winning singer and composer, AR Rahman and his , Saira have announced separation have 29 years of being together.
On Tuesday night, A.R. Rahman and his wife announced their separation via a joint statement released by their lawyer, Vandana Shah.
The statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time."
Shortly after this announcement, the couple's son, A.R. Ameen, addressed the matter on Instagram, requesting privacy and thanking everyone for their understanding during this time. He wrote, "We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding."
In a throwback interview with Nasreen Munni Kabir for her book A.R. Rahman: The Spirit of Music, Rahman reminisced warmly about his wife and their journey together. He shared that in 1994, at the age of 27, he decided it was time to marry, humorously noting that he felt old. He recalled how his mother and sister, Fathima, first met Saira at the shrine of Sufi saint Moti Baba in Chennai, describing the process as remarkably smooth and effortless.
The couple were married in 1995 and has a son named Ameen and two daughters, Khatija and Raheema. Fans were taken aback by the news of their split, considering the couple's enduring relationship.
