West Bengal Lok Sabha Election Phase 3: In the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections, four Lok Sabha constituencies of West Bengal - Jangipur, Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, and Murshidabad - will go into polls.

The third phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections is slated to be held on May 7.

In this phase, the states participating in the polls include Assam (4 seats), Bihar (5 seats), Chhattisgarh (7 seats), Goa (2 seats), Gujarat (26 seats), Karnataka (14 seats), Madhya Pradesh (8 seats), Maharashtra (11 seats), Uttar Pradesh (10 seats), West Bengal (4 seats), Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu (2 seats), along with Jammu and Kashmir (1 seat).

In this phase, four Lok Sabha constituencies of West Bengal, an important state in the nation's political discourse, will go into polls. These seats include - Jangipur, Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, and Murshidabad.

The Jangipur Lok Sabha seat is looking ahead for a three-cornered contest this time. This seat holds significant significance due to its association with the late President Pranab Mukherjee, who contested and won it in both 2004 and 2009. Following his presidency, his son, Abhijit Mukherjee, ran for the seat in 2012 and 2016. Later, in the 2019 elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Khallilur Rahman emerged victorious and is seeking re-election. This time, BJP's Dhananjay Ghosh and Congress' Mortazza Hossain also vying for the seat, making way for a high-voltage three-cornered battle.

Further up, Maldaha Uttar's BJP candidate Khagen Murmu faces competition from Prasun Banerjee, a former IPS Officer affiliated with the TMC. Meanwhile, the Congress party has nominated Mostaque Alam as their candidate for the constituency.

On the other hand, the Congress party has nominated Isha Khan Choudhury, nephew of late party leader Ghani Khan Choudhury, as its candidate. Given Ghani Khan's legacy, which continues to influence the region nearly two decades after his demise, this Muslim-majority seat is also up for a high-voltage triangular drama.

In the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections, a total of 94 Lok Sabha seats spread across 12 states and Union Territories will go into polls.
