Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance has swept Tamil Nadu and has won all 39 seats. However, the party and its allies have won with relatively smaller margins in the rural areas.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the party of MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalitha, has drew a blank as of 10 pm. National Democratic Alliance partner Pattali Makkal Katchi, which was leading in Dharmapuri, has lost the seat.
Tamil Nadu went for polling for the Lok Sabha elections on 19 April during the first phase to elect the 39 members of parliament. The state usually gives sweeping verdicts in favour of either of the Dravidian parties across the urban and rural areas.
The rural seats in Tamil Nadu are Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Arani, Viluppuram, Kallakurichi, Dharmapuri, Perambalur, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Chidambaram and Sivaganga.

Alliances
DMK is part of Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which was formed mid-last year. AIADMK withdrew from the NDA late last year.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA had secured a vote share of 9.39 percent, but that did not translate into any seats. However, the alliance won 2 seats in the 2014 general election when it had cornered 10.13 percent of the vote share.
For the first time this year, BJP was betting big on it’s own popularity with support from smaller caste-based parties like Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) and TTV Dinakaran-led Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam.
In Tamil Nadu, INDIA Bloc consists of DMK, Congress, Communist Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).
AIADMK led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami has joined hands with Puthiya Tamilagam, Social Democratic Party of India and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam.
