Bathinda, a district and Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab, holds significant historical and political importance. According to the 2011 census, the district has a population of approximately 1.4 million. Elections have been held in Bathinda 19 times since 1952, with Congress winning six times and the Communist Party of India winning once in 1999. The first Lok Sabha election in Bathinda was won by Sardar Hukum Singh of the Indian National Congress in 1952. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has dominated the seat since 2004.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Shiromani Akali Dal retained the seat with 490,811 votes, defeating Congress's Amrinder Singh Raja, who received 469,412 votes. AAP's Baljinder Kaur came third with 134,398 votes. In the 2014 election, Harsimrat Kaur Badal won with 514,727 votes (43.73% vote share), defeating Manpreet Singh Badal of Congress, who received 495,332 votes (42.09% vote share), by a margin of 19,395 votes.

For the 2024 election, Bathinda has 27 candidates in the fray. Key candidates include Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD), Amrinder Singh Raja Warring (Congress), and Baljinder Kaur (AAP). The election process began with the filing of nominations, which concluded on May 14, and the last date for withdrawing nominations was May 17. Voting in Bathinda is scheduled for June 1, with results to be announced on June 4.
