Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday was sworn in for a third consecutive term at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Along with Modi, several parliamentarians- from BJP and NDA allies took oath in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.

Modi, 73, first became Prime Minister in 2014 and then returned to office in 2019. He is the second PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to be elected for a third consecutive term.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, Modi was re-elected to Lok Sabha from Varanasi. However, the BJP failed to secure a majority this time unlike in 2014 and 2019 -- with just 240 seats to its kitty. Therefore, the Modi-led party formed the government at the Centre with the support of NDA allies. Both the TDP and JD(U) are crucial allies of the BJP in the NDA government. The TDP has 16 MPs and the JD(U) has 12 MPs in the Lok Sabha.
