The Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, nestled in the Pune district of Maharashtra, is a bastion of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Renowned as the largest stronghold of the NCP, this constituency has remained under the sway of the Pawar family for the past 27 years. This time, Baramati is poised for a high-stakes showdown as the NCP's Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, squares off against Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar's daughter. This electoral contest is further intensified by the familial ties at play, with Sule and Ajit Pawar being cousins, and Sunetra Pawar, the sister-in-law of the incumbent MP.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Supriya Sule, successfully retained the seat, garnering 6,86,714 votes. The BJP candidate, Kanchan Rahul Kul, secured the second position with 5,30,940 votes, while Padalkar Navnath from the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi came in third with 44,134 votes.
In the 2014 polls, Supriya Sule had clinched victory for the second time, maintaining the Pawar family's stronghold despite the Modi wave sweeping across the country. Sule secured a commendable 5,21,562 votes. In the same election, Mahadev Jankar of the Rashtriya Samaj Paksha emerged as the runner-up with 4,51,843 votes, while Suresh Khopade of AAP secured the third position with 26,396 votes.
