Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 7: Arvind Kejriwal urges voters to end "dictatorship"

As voting began for the seventh and final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on June 1, Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to voters to exercise their franchise in large numbers “to protect democracy and the Constitution.”

“In this great festival of democracy, the country will vote in the last phase today. All of you are requested to exercise your right to vote in large numbers to protect democracy and the Constitution,” Mr. Kejriwal posted on X.

“Go to vote yourself and take your neighbours along with you. Dictatorship will lose, and democracy will win,” he added.

Mr. Kejriwal has been on bail in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy. The Supreme Court granted him 21-day interim bail on May 10 to campaign during the Lok Sabha polls, directing him to surrender on June 2, a day after the final voting phase.

During his campaign, Mr. Kejriwal extensively criticized the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of being dictatorial and misusing central investigative agencies to crush the Opposition.

Elections 2024: Over 10% voter turnout in eight Bihar Lok Sabha seats till 9 am

During the last phase of elections on Saturday, over 10.58% of the 1.62 crore voters in Bihar cast their votes in eight Lok Sabha seats by 9 am, officials reported. Polling commenced at 7 am in Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Arrah, Karakat, Jehanabad, Buxar, Nalanda, and Sasaram Lok Sabha seats, and will continue till 6 pm.

Patliputra registered the highest turnout at 12.39%, followed by Jehanabad (12.21%), Karakat (11.75%), Sasaram (11.18%), Patna Sahib (10.76%), Arrah (9.32%), Nalanda (9.17%), and Buxar (8.32%) by 9 am.

Additionally, voting is underway for the by-election to the Agiaon assembly segment in the Arrah Lok Sabha seat, recording a turnout of 8.50% till 9 am.

The by-poll was triggered by the disqualification of CPI (ML) Liberation MLA Manoj Manzil due to his conviction in a murder case. Shiv Prakash Ranjan represents the Left party in the by-election, while Prabhunath Prasad of JD (U) stands for the NDA.
