BJP’s Ramvir Singh Bidhuri is set to win in the South Delhi constituency as per trends at 17:38 pm. He is ahead of AAP's Sahi Ram by over one lakh votes.
Voting took place on May 25 in the South Delhi constituency during the sixth phase of the seven-phase general election. AAP’s candidate was expected to pose a significant challenge for the BJP here.
For the 2024 polls, a tough contest was expected between BJP’s Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and AAP’s Sahi Ram for this seat. Interestingly, both of them are currently Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) with Bidhuri representing Badarpur and Ram representing Tughlakabad.
While, Bidhuri has garnered close to 7 lakh votes so far, Ram has received around 5 lakh 63 thousand votes.
So far, BJP is winning all of the seven Delhi constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
About South Delhi
South Delhi comprises 10 assembly constituencies, according to the 2008 order of the Delimitation Commission, which includes areas such as Kalkaji, Mehrauli, Sangam Vihar, Badarpur, and Chhatarpur.
BJP’s Ramvir Singh replaced two-time winner Ramesh Bidhuri who in 2019 maintained his strong hold over the South Delhi seat, defeating AAP's Raghav Chadha by a significant margin of 3,67,043 votes (30.23 percent). Bidhuri secured 6,87,014 votes, while Chadha garnered 3,19,971 votes.
In the 2014 polls, Bidhuri emerged victorious against AAP's Colonel Devinder Sehrawat with 4,97,980 votes compared to Sehrawat's 3,90,980 votes. But in the 2009 elections BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri had lost out to Ramesh Kumar of the Congress, who won with 3,60,278 votes, while Bidhuri’s count was at 2,67,059.
The South Delhi constituency is part of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.
