The political situation in Andhra Pradesh has escalated recently. During a campaign rally in Vijayawada, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who leads the YSR Congress Party, was struck by a stone, causing a minor injury to his left temple. The incident has led to a war of words between the YSRCP and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Both parties have been trading accusations and blame. This conflict has aggravated the already tense political climate in the state, as important Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for May 13.

During the election campaign, an unknown attacker threw a stone at high speed, hitting the Chief Minister. The YSRCP party representatives were quick to address the media; General Secretary S Ramakrishna Reddy described the attack as premeditated and a "cold-blooded" action. He suggested that it was a desperate attempt by political rivals to disrupt Reddy's direct engagement with the voters.

Ramakrishna Reddy accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of planning a violent attack against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the leader of the YSR Congress Party. During a press conference, Reddy stated that the attack resulted from TDP's insecurity towards the response Jagan Reddy was receiving through his poll campaign, roadshows, and meetings. Reddy also claimed that TDP's leader, N Chandrababu Naidu, had previously incited his followers to commit violent acts against Jagan Reddy. This accusation highlights the animosity between the two major political parties in the state.

V Vijayasai Reddy, YSRCP Lok Sabha candidate from Nellore, used social media to denounce Naidu's political style, which he described as relying on "violence and conspiracies" instead of developmental policies. He posted that this attack proved Naidu's engagement in cowardly politics. This reinforces the narrative of a targeted political attack against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and his party condemned the attack on Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, they suggest that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should conduct a thorough and fair investigation into the incident. Naidu disapproved of the attack on social media, saying, "I condemn the attack on Jagan and urge the Election Commission of India to conduct a fair and unbiased inquiry into the incident, and punish those responsible." A TDP spokesperson, Pattabhiram Kommareddy, suggested that the YSRCP might have orchestrated the incident to gain electoral sympathy. Kommareddy referred to previous controversies involving the party, saying, "This incident, coinciding with the YSRCP's past actions, raises doubts about its authenticity."
