National Safety Day 2025: Date, History, Significance and This Year's Theme

The National Safety Council was established on March 4, 1966 to promote safety awareness and encourage voluntary efforts to maintain safe practices in workplaces. Seven years later, in 1972, India observed National Safety Day for the first time.

Since then, the day has been an important occasion to educate people about safety regulations related to industries, health, road safety, and environmental protection. In 2000, the National Safety Council was registered as a public trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950. Various safety training sessions, awareness campaigns, and programmes are organised to emphasise the need for safety measures.
