In a sharp critique of the government, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to address the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2024 results. Ramesh accused the administration of mishandling the situation and raised several critical questions about the integrity of the examination process.
"The एक तिहाई Pradhan Mantri’s Sarkar has tried to wriggle its way out of the simmering NEET controversy and scam. It has assured the Supreme Court that grace marks given to 1563 students will be cancelled. But why were the grace marks given in the first place?" Ramesh tweeted on June 13.

Responding to this, BJP leader Amit Malviya, posted a fact sheet on NEET result.
As the NEET UG result controversy continues to unfold, the demands for transparency and accountability from the government are growing louder. Earlier, the Congress party sought the removal of the National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General and claimed that the BJP government's attitude towards the ongoing demand for an inquiry into the NEET examination is "irresponsible and insensitive".
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that in the last 10 years, the Modi government has ruined the future of crores of youth through paper leaks and rigging.
"The Modi government cannot escape its responsibility by placing the responsibility of its actions on the shoulders of NTA. There should be a CBI investigation into the entire NEET scam. If the Modi government is not ready for a CBI inquiry then the Congress party demands a fair inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court," Kharge said in a post.
However, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan dismissed allegations of paper leaks and rigging in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam, stating there is no evidence to support such claims. Pradhan accused the opposition of spreading false information without understanding the facts.
"No concrete evidence of any kind of rigging, corruption, or paper leak has been found so far in the NEET exam. All facts are before the Supreme Court and under consideration. The kind of politics being done on this issue is only an attempt to spread confusion and it affects the mental peace of the students," Pradhan said.
Pradhan criticized the political sparring over the issue, noting that the NEET counselling process is about to begin. "Making this a subject of political sparring is not only unfair but is like playing with the future generation. The focus of the central government is always on ensuring a bright future for the students," he added.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET-UG results on June 4, but the announcement was marred by controversy.
On June 13, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has cancelled the decision to award grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses. Instead, these candidates will have the option to retake the NEET UG exam on June 23.
Candidates who choose not to retake the exam will have their original scores, minus the grace marks, considered for their results.
