Days after a Class 10 student was stabbed to death in an Ahmedabad school, initial findings of the police probe revealed lapsed in response after he was attacked outside his school.
The deceased, identified as Nayan Santani, was stabbed when he got in a fight with a junior student. The fight lasted for about 30-40 minutes, ending with the stabbing.
The 15-year-old student, seriously injured, stumbled into the campus seeking help but went untreated for about half an hour, the probe revealed, according to a report by The Times of India.
School authorities allegedly first dialed up for a water tanker to clean the bloodstains, before calling an ambulance, the prove further revealed, as per a TOI report.
A case of criminal negligence has been filed against the principal and two teachers of Seventh Day Adventist School in Maninagar, Ahmedabad. The principal, G Immanuel, is currently absconding, while the questioning of other school staff is underway.
Officers said the staff failed to provide medical help on time and these lapses could have directly contributed to the tragedy. The Gujarat Police has sought court sanction to proceed with the case.
The class 10 student died of his injuries a day after he was stabbed by a Class 8 junior following an altercation. The incident took place outside the premises of the school. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and the accused, a minor, has been detained under the Juvenile Act.
In a CCTV footage, Nayan can be seen walking into the school with his hand on his stomach, covering the wound. The student was taken to a private hospital in Maninagar, where he died of his injuries.
A postmortem conducted by a team of eight doctors found that while the external stab wound was only 1.5 cm, it had fatally severed a major abdominal artery and vein. Nearly 2.5 litres of blood had collected in his stomach, TOI reported.
The report also noted four perforations in the intestine and and a rupture that restricted blood supply to vital organs.
