Slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, has announced his decision to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from the Mansa constituency to seek justice for his son. The announcement comes just days before the third anniversary of Moosewala’s murder on May 29, 2022, News18 reported.

Speaking to reporters, Singh, 60, said his political entry is driven by the unresolved investigation into his son’s killing and the deteriorating law and order in Punjab. He said he would contest to seek justice for his son by staying within the system. Expressing frustration over the state government’s inaction, he singled out Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, criticising the failure to rein in gangsters, The Tribune reported.

Singh highlighted the continued absence of Goldy Brar, the Canada-based gangster allegedly behind Moosewala’s murder. The case has seen five chargesheets filed against 32 accused, including Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, but key figures like Brar evade prosecution.

As per The Tribune, the trial suffered a recent blow with the death of retired SHO Angrej Singh, the first investigating officer, on May 24 after a prolonged illness. A senior police official admitted his absence could weaken the case, as he held critical firsthand knowledge.
