The newly built Cherlapalli Railway Terminal in Hyderabad, which was inaugurated in January 2025, suffered structural damage on May 3 after only mild rain and wind.

According to reports, the area received just 2.5 cm of rainfall and wind speeds around 15 kmph. Despite the low intensity of the weather, sections of the terminal’s roof were damaged, and some ceiling panels collapsed.

South Central Railway General Manager Arun Kumar Jain on Sunday directed chief administrative officer Satya Prakash, principal head of the construction wing, to carry out a detailed investigation into the incident of collapse of roofing panels to “take necessary corrective and strict punitive action.”

The iron sheets covering the roof near the terminal’s main gate were torn apart by the wind. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Railway officials rushed to the site after the incident and immediately began repair work to fix the damage.
