According to the police, Surendra had picked up the accused passenger offline from Shastri Nagar Park in Delhi around 3 pm. Officers said the same passenger had already travelled with Surendra earlier in the day, first from Delhi to Panipat and later back towards Ghaziabad. He had allegedly booked the cab for a drop near the Ghaziabad RRTS station or a nearby metro station.

Police officials said the argument over the fare began as the cab approached the trisection. "The passenger suddenly launched a frenzied knife attack, stabbing the driver on the neck and back. When the victim managed to open the window and get out of the car, the accused followed him and stabbed him again in the chest before fleeing," a police officer was quoted by TOI as saying.
