UP wedding viral video: Stage collapses just as BJP leaders pose for camera after blessing couple

A wedding reception in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district turned dramatic on Wednesday, when a raised platform suddenly gave way, sending the bride, groom, and several guests, including senior BJP leaders, crashing to the ground. The incident was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media.

The reception was organised at the Ramlila Ground for the brother of BJP leader Abhishek Singh. According to a report by Bhaskar English, many political leaders had gathered on the stage at the same time to bless the newlywed couple.

Among them were BJP district president Sanjay Mishra, former MP Bharat Singh, Bansdih MLA Ketakee Singh’s representative Vishram Singh, former BJP district general secretary Surjit Singh, along with several other local functionaries.

As the couple sat on a decorated couch, leaders stepped onto the stage one after another. The crowd grew quickly as people tried to find space, many preparing for a group photograph.

Within moments, the wooden platform could no longer bear the combined weight. It suddenly collapsed, and the entire group fell through as the stage buckled.

In the viral video, people standing in the audience shout as they rush forward to pull everyone out. Despite the sight, all were safely assisted out of the gap. Only one worker is said to have suffered a minor injury, and the newlyweds were not harmed, as per the report.

Once the clip surfaced online, it led to a flood of reactions on social media. Many users responded with humour. Comments such as “Heavyweight leaders they are,” “Too much moral weight,” and “Is this a prediction for the next UP election results?” were widely shared.

Others joked that the stage “may have been built by a government contractor,” while some viewers sympathised, hoping everyone was safe.

Speaking about the incident, BJP district president Sanjay Mishra said the stage was not strong enough to handle so many people at once. He added that more individuals than required had climbed up together to bless the couple, which led to the collapse. Mishra confirmed that there were no serious injuries.
