An engineer and a woman were killed while two others suffered injuries after a speeding SUV, being driven by a policeman’s son, rammed into them in Gujarat's Bhavnagar.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Harshraj Singh Gohil (20), was racing with his friend on a fairly crowded street in the Kaliyabeed area around 4 pm. While he was driving Creta, his friend was driving a red Brezza car.
The incident was caught on CCTV. It showed a speeding white Creta car hitting the two pedestrians standing on the roadside and then ramming into a scooter. The deceased pedestrians were identified as Bhargav Bhatt, 30, and Champaben Vachani, 65.
The police said that Bhatt had married last year and was en route to work when the crash claimed his life.
The driver is the son of Assistant Sub Inspector Aniruddha Singh Vajubha Gohil from the Local Crime Branch. He was taken into custody. His policeman father reached the spot and beat him up and then handed him over to the Nilambag police station, according to a report by News18.
