The Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Honda Amaze, two key players in India's sub-4 metre compact sedan segment, have now been rated under Bharat NCAP. Both models received strong results, but the data indicates a clear lead for the Dzire in adult and child occupant protection.
The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire secured 29.46 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 41.57 out of 49 points in child occupant protection (COP).
In comparison, the third-generation Honda Amaze recorded 28.33 out of 32 points in AOP and 40.81 out of 49 points in COP. While both score well above the mid-range, the Dzire edges ahead in both categories.
In the frontal offset test, the Dzire scored 14.17/16, marginally higher than the Amaze's 14.33/16, while in the side impact test, the Dzire achieved 15.29/16, outperforming the Amaze's 14.00/16. These gains collectively lift the Dzire's total AOP score above its rival.
Child occupant performance also favours the Dzire. Both cars passed CRS installation evaluations with full 12/12 scores, but the Amaze posted a higher dynamic performance total (23.81 vs 23.57 for Dzire). However, the Dzire had a better vehicle assessment score (6 vs 5 for Amaze). This contributes to the Dzire’s final COP tally being higher by nearly one point.
So far as star ratings are concerned, the Dzire bagged five out of five in both AOP and COP. On the other hand, the Amaze secured five in AOP and four in COP.
In terms of safety equipment, both sedans offer standard six airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, load limiters, electronic stability control and pedestrian protection systems across variants. ISOFIX mounts are also standard in the second-row outboard seats for both models.
While the Dzire is priced between Rs 6,25,600 and Rs 9,31,300 (ex-showroom), the Amaze sits in the price bracket of Rs 7,40,800 to Rs 9,99,900 (ex-showroom).
The Dzire employs Maruti Suzuki's new Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which generates 81.58PS of maximum power and 111.7Nm of peak torque. The transmission choices include 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. There is also a CNG option with a 5-speed MT.
The Amaze gets Honda's reliable 1.2-litre SOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 90PS of maximum power and 110Nm of peak torque. It can be paired either with a 5-speed MT or a CVT automatic.
