A video of an Indian woman crying and pleading with US police officers after allegedly being caught shoplifting has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. The undated and unverified footage, shared widely on X, appears to show the woman being detained at a Target store in the US. Moneycontrol has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.

In the clip, the woman is seen sobbing and apologising to officers, insisting she forgot to pay for the items. Despite being repeatedly asked to turn around, she continues to plead, saying, “No sir, sorry. Please,” with folded hands.
When she asks what will happen after she is handcuffed, one officer explains that she will be taken to the station, processed, and released in a few hours. The woman, still crying, asks to call her husband, but the request is denied.

According to reports, the woman allegedly shoplifted clothing items, including men’s wear, which she claimed were intended for her brother in India, who liked “Made in USA” products but could not afford them. “Give me a chance,” she pleads in the video, claiming she forgot to pay.

The video has triggered widespread criticism online, with many users calling the incident “embarrassing” and warning that such acts tarnish the image of the Indian community abroad.

This isn’t the first such incident. In May, another Indian woman in Illinois was accused of attempting to steal merchandise worth about ₹1.1 lakh from a Target store.
