The phrase “Republic of Balochistan” is trending across social media platforms following a bold declaration by Baloch nationalist leaders proclaiming independence from Pakistan. This symbolic move, led by figures like Mir Yar Baloch, has reignited global attention on Balochistan’s long-standing grievances, its strategic importance, and its overtures toward India, particularly amid heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Mir Yar Baloch, a renowned writer and an advocate for Baloch rights, shared multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter), issuing the declaration and also urged the Indian government to allow a Baloch embassy in New Delhi. He also asked the Pakistani Army to withdrawn from the region.

He also urged support from the United Nations to recognise it and call a meeting of the UN members. “We also ask the United Nations to recognise the independence of the Democratic Republic of Balochistan and call a meeting of all UN members to lend your support for recognition. There must be a release of billions of funds for currency, and passport printing.

At the same time, social media users circulated a map showing an independent Balochistan, along with images of people waving its flag.
