Pakistan on edge as TLP-led alliance issues ultimatum over ‘Muridke massacre’

Pakistan is preparing for possible unrest after major religious parties, led by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), issued an ultimatum to the federal and Punjab governments demanding justice for what they describe as the “Muridke massacre.”

The coalition, operating under the banner of Ahl-e-Sunnah Pakistan, has warned of nationwide protests and sit-ins if their demands are ignored. According to senior sources, the group’s immediate conditions include opening talks with the government, releasing all detained workers, and withdrawing police cases against party members.

Leaders of the alliance have vowed to avenge the deaths in Muridke, where several TLP supporters were reportedly shot dead earlier this week during clashes with police and paramilitary forces.

Friday has been declared a “Black Day” by the Barelvi sect coalition, which includes several like-minded religious organisations. Following Jumma Namaz (Friday prayers), the TLP and its affiliates plan to stage countrywide demonstrations. The alliance will announce its next steps later in the day and hold a follow-up meeting on October 22 in Faisalabad to finalise an action plan.
