U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz took responsibility for the Signal chat leak on Yemen strikes and called it "embarrassing." The chat also included a journalist from The Atlantic.
In an interview with Fox News on March 25, Waltz admitted creating the chat where sensitive U.S. attack details on Yemen were posted but insisted the information was not classified.
He said, "It's embarrassing, yes. We're going to get to the bottom of it. We've have, I just talked to Elon (Musk) on the way here. We've got the best technical minds looking at how this happened. But I can tell you, I can tell you for 100%, I don't know this guy (Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg). I know him by his horrible reputation and he really is a bottom scum of journalists. And I know him in the sense that he hates the president, but I don't text him. He wasn't on my phone."
Mike Waltz took full responsibility for creating the Signal chat, stating it was his role to ensure coordination among officials.
"Look, I take full responsibility. I built the, I built the group, my job is to make sure everything's coordinated," Waltz added.
President Donald Trump's administration has been working to contain the fallout from a March 24 article by The Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, who revealed he was part of a Signal group chat with Trump’s top national security officials discussing Yemen operations.
Goldberg said that Pete Hegseth shared attack details shortly before the strikes, including targets, weapons, and sequencing, which he read from his phone in a supermarket parking lot.
Despite concerns, Trump’s administration maintains that no classified information was disclosed, a stance that has puzzled Democrats and former officials. Intelligence leaders Tulsi Gabbard and John Ratcliffe also denied the presence of classified material but deferred classification decisions to Hegseth.
When asked if more details from the chat would be made public, Waltz told Fox News he did not "want it all out there."
Mike Waltz acknowledged the error, saying, "We made a mistake," but emphasized the administration's focus on moving forward. He reaffirmed their commitment, vowing to "continue to knock it out of the park for this president."
