YouTube says no more sharing Premium Family Plan outside your home: All the details

YouTube is ending Premium Family Plan sharing for users not living in the same household, following Netflix’s lead. Here’s what the rule means for you.

If you’ve been enjoying YouTube Premium as part of a family plan with friends or relatives who don’t live with you, things are about to change. YouTube has quietly started warning users that the Premium Family Plan will soon be restricted to members living under the same roof.

What’s happening?

Some users recently received an email from YouTube with the subject line: “Your YouTube Premium family membership will be paused.” The message explained that family plans require everyone to live in the same household as the family manager. If YouTube detects otherwise, the Premium access will stop after 14 days.

In simple terms, if your “family” is spread across different cities (or even just different houses), only the person paying for the plan might keep Premium. Everyone else will be pushed back to the free, ad-supported version.
