Artificial Super Intelligence is touted to be the next big thing in the ever-growing artificial intelligence (AI) space. However, some industry leaders intend to create a safe AI environment at a time when some of the biggest tech companies are looking to dominate the generative AI boom. SoftBank’s billionaire CEO Masayoshi Son and Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s founding members, seem to share the same idea.
Both believe that we have not yet seen the full potential of AI, and the upcoming Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) could be even more powerful than AI in its current state. Further, they believe that ASI has the potential to revolutionise various industries and our daily livelihood, which could be also scary for future generations.
At SoftBank’s annual meeting in Tokyo recently, Son boldly predicted that by 2035, we could see AI that is “10,000 times smarter” than any human. He further added, that while general AI could mirror a human “genius” and be up to 10 times more capable than an average person, ASI could be much smarter than this.
Sutskever announced his new company, Safe Superintelligence Inc., months after leaving OpenAI. While sharing this news on social media platform X, he also predicted that AI with super intelligence or ASI is superior to humans and could arrive within the next decade.
However, Sutskever also raised concerns about its safety and competitiveness. As AI continues to evolve, these concerns must be addressed in the future and AI with its evolving state be used carefully.
