Unwanted calls from unknown numbers can be a daily irritation, but Apple’s new Call Screening feature in iOS 26 makes it easier to take control. Instead of forcing you to pick up every unknown call, Call Screening automatically answers on your behalf, asks the caller their name and reason, and then lets you decide if it’s worth your time. Think of it as having Siri play gatekeeper — efficient, polite, and protective.
Here’s how to set it up and use it.
Steps to enable Call Screening on iPhone
Open Settings Unlock your iPhone and open the Settings app.
Go to Phone settings Scroll down, tap Apps, then select Phone.
Choose your Call Screening mode You’ll see three options:
- Never: Turns Call Screening off. Your iPhone will ring normally for all calls, even unsaved numbers.
- Ask Reason for Calling: Unknown callers will be prompted to state their name and purpose before your iPhone rings. You’ll hear their response and decide whether to answer.
- Silence: Calls from unsaved numbers will go straight to voicemail and appear in your Recents list. Your phone won’t ring at all.
Siri handles the interaction, speaking in your iPhone’s default language. Make sure your settings match your preference.
Why it matters
Call Screening helps you filter spam, avoid scams, and reduce interruptions — all without missing calls that may actually be important. It’s one of those small iOS tweaks that can make daily life just a bit calmer.
