The Photos app on the iPhone lets users create personalised slideshows with their favourite images, complete with transitions, background music, and themes. Whether you want to relive a recent trip or create a highlight reel for a special occasion, Apple makes it easy — no third-party apps required. The feature supports two types of slideshows: standard slideshows and memory movies. The former lets you select photos, set duration, and add background music, while memory movies include fonts, filters, and richer visual effects.
How to create a slideshow on iPhone
- Open the Photos app.
- Browse your photo library using Years, Months, or All Photos.
- Tap Select and choose the pictures you want to include.
- Tap the ellipsis (⋯) icon at the bottom-right corner and choose Play as Slideshow.
- Your slideshow will automatically begin playing with default transitions and background music.
- You can pause, resume, or close it anytime by tapping the screen.
- While the slideshow is playing, tap a photo to pause it.
- Tap the ellipsis (⋯) again and choose Manage Photos or Edit.
- Deselect images you don’t want or add more using the (+) icon.
- Tap Done to save your changes.
You can also rename your slideshow, mark it as a favourite, choose a cover photo, or remove it from the Memory section if you don’t want it saved automatically.
How to change music and theme
To set the mood, tap the music note icon while viewing the slideshow. Choose from Apple’s music library or your own tracks, preview them, and tap Done to confirm. For themes, tap the three-circle icon to open Memory Looks and pick from various visual filters and styles before saving. Once you’ve customised it, your slideshow becomes a Memory video that you can revisit or edit anytime.
How to share your slideshow
Using AirPlay: Tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV or other compatible device to stream it wirelessly.
Using Share options: Tap the Share icon to send it directly via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop.
