Qualcomm officially entered the personal computing (PC) industry last year with the introduction of its dedicated Snapdragon X chipsets. The chipmaking giant already powers devices more than just phones, powering its SoCs in smartwatches, TVs, tablets, and several other devices. However, at the ongoing Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and Google’s SVP of Devices and Services Rick Osterloh have discussed a new joint project, hinting at PCs powered by Android that are in the works.
Snapdragon-powered Android PCs to launch soon: Key details
During the opening keynote of Snapdragon Summit 2025, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, while speaking on stage with Google’s head of platforms and devices, Rick Osterloh, teased bringing Android to the desktop, with Qualcomm powering the experience. While no information was provided about a product name or its specifications, the company revealed that it has embarked on building a common technical foundation for devices across different form factors, including PCs.
Last year, it was reported that Google is working on a multi-year project to merge Chrome OS and Android, effectively unifying both operating systems. The conversation between Amon and Osterloh hints at that ongoing project, as they added, “We are building together a common technical foundation for our products on PCs and desktop computing systems.”
Following Osterloh’s remarks, Amon added, "I've seen it. It's incredible. It delivers on the vision of convergence between mobile and PC, and I cannot wait to have one." Moreover, this collaboration has effectively confirmed that these PCs will be powered by a Snapdragon processor. It is still unknown which budget segment these devices will target, but these latest comments suggest that these devices will eventually replace the existing Chromebook lineup.
