John Cena, arguably the greatest pro-wrestler of all time, added a new feat to his illustrious career. In the latest episode of WWE Monday Night Raw (November 10), which was held in Boston, Triple H, a Hall of Famer and WWE's current chief content officer, opened the show and invited Cena to the ring, who is on his retirement tour.
The segment was soon interrupted by generational star Dominik Mysterio, which subsequently led to a major title exchange. Dominik, on expected lines, trash talked Cena and while doing so he didn't spare his father and legendary Rey Mysterio. A match between the two was decided with Dominik's WWE InterContinental title on the line, which he eventually lost.
The match saw Dominik resorting to cheap tricks but Cena ensured none of it worked. He in fact could have won the match via submission but it wasn't the case as as the referee laid unconscious outside the ring.
The action continued and a different referee rushed to the ring after Cena hit Dominik with his iconic Attitude Adjustment but it turned out to be a nearfall.
Dominik then managed to line Cena up for a 619, which he successfully executed and followed it with a frog splash. Despite taking the splash, Cena showcased his strength as he rolled over and lifted Dominik for another Attitude Adjustment, which was enough to bring the action to an end.
Cena's win was celebrated by the entire locker room as he was applauded backstage. Rey, who was also present, shook hands with the 17-time WWE Champion before saying his son deserved the beating.
This is Cena's first WWE Intercontinental Title, as he completes a much deserving career Grand Slam. The feat also helps him join an elite list featuring Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kane, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, among others.
Cena's rich resume now mentions - 17-time WWE Champion, five-time WWE United States champion, one-time WWE Intercontinental champion, and four-time WWE Tag Team champion.
Meanwhile, the new chapter in Cena's WWE career is running parallelly with 'The Last Time is Now' Tournament, the winner of which will face the pro-wrestling icon in the final match of his career.
