The consequence of India's ten-wicket loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal was significant. Despite a number of changes, most players were able to return to the T20I setup barring two, KL Rahul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

In two overs at the Adelaide Oval, the pacer conceded 25 runs. He played against New Zealand the same year, which was his last T20I appearance till date. He has since not been considered for international matches in any format.

Despite his outstanding achievements in the past the experienced pacer has lost the interest of selectors, but he is not ready to give up yet. “I am enjoying my bowling. I haven't thought about retirement yet. As long as I am fit, I will keep playing, the rest is the job of the selectors,” Bhuvneshwar told Dainik Jagran on the sidelines of the UP T20 League.

Whether he makes a comeback to the international scene is up to the selectors, but he plans to play in all formats for Uttar Pradesh during the forthcoming domestic season. “My job is to give my 100 percent on the field and I am giving it. After the UP League, if I get a chance to play for the state's senior teams in Mushtaq Ali, Ranji or one-day format, I will try to give my best there too. As a disciplined bowler, my focus is on my fitness and line-length. No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck does not favour you,” the 35-year-old said.
