India's first World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev offered his thoughts on the much debated India-Pakistan match at the Asia Cup. He advised fans not to make it a major issue, stating that "the government will do its job, and the players should do theirs."

Nonetheless, the BCCI has insisted that it is bound by the central government's policy, which allows participation in international competitions but prohibits bilateral series with Pakistan.
