RR vs PBKS Highlights, IPL 2025 Match: Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued from where they left and relaunched their IPL 2025 campaign with a 10-run victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The team produced a tremendous turnaround both while batting and bowling. The outcome saw Punjab climb second on the points table and they are now on level terms with table toppers Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Both teams have secured 17 points from 12 encounters as RCB lead the charts due to a superior NRR.
Punjab, who won the toss and opted to bat, lost three wickets in the powerplay but a late recovery led by Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh helped them pile a massive 219/5 in 20 overs. Rajasthan in response got off to an explosive start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi dealing in boundaries from both ends. The pair helped RR race to 50 inside three overs and added 76 for the first wicket in 4.5 overs. However, clinical display by Harpreet Brar, the impact substitute, ensured things titled back in Punjab's favour.
The spinner first got rid of Suryavanshi for 15-ball 40, which featured four boundaries and the same number of maximums. The Royals eventually accumulated 89/1 at the end of the powerplay. Brar provided PBKS with the second breakthrough as he removed the dangerous Jaiswal for 50(25), featuring nine boundaries and a maximum. Sanju Samson, however, failed to capitalise on the solid platform laid by the openers and departed for 20(16) against Azmatullah Omarzai.
Meanwhile, the injections from Brar continued as he castled Riyan Parag for 13(11), which tilted the contest back into Punjab's favour. Dhruv Jurel led the chase but didn't find the support required. Omarzai packed Shimron Hetmyer for 11(12) to pick his second wicket and with 22 required in the final over Marco Jansen injected double blows. He first removed Jurel for 53 off 31 (three 4s and four 6s) and Wanindu Hasaranga for first ball duck.
Meanwhile, the action started with the hosts dominating as Punjab openers Arya and Prabhsimran Singh were packed cheaply by Tushar Deshpande. Priyansh fell for 9(7), while Prabhsimran was caught behind for 21(10). Kwena Maphaka injected the third blow by getting rid of Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Owen for a two-ball duck.
Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera then did the rebuilding and added 67 off 44 balls for the fourth wicket before the partnership was broken by Riyan Parag. The all-rounder dismissed Iyer for 30(25), which brought Shashank Singh in the middle. Wadhera stitched another 50-plus stand with Shashank for the fifth wicket before getting out at 70(37) against Akash Madhwal. His knock featured five boundaries and the same number of maximums.
Shashank Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai kept the momentum intact and stitched another 50-plus stand, majorly dealing in boundaries. Both batters returned unbeaten as Shashank hammered 59 off 30 balls (five 4s and three 6s) and Omarzai gathered 21 off 9 balls (three 4s and one 6).
