DC vs KKR 2025, IPL Match Highlights: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) produced a tremendous comeback and defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs in a thrilling showdown at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. Batting first Kolkata piled a stiff 204/9 in 20 overs. Delhi in response got off to a shaky start before Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel dug deep to shift the momentum. Despite their impressive efforts, combined with Vipraj Nigam's late show, Delhi fell short and managed 190/9 in the end.
The action began with Delhi winning the toss and opting to bowl, considering the dew factor which had come to hurt them in the previous match against RCB, which they lost by six wickets. Kolkata got off to a blazing start but none of the batters managed to reach the 50-run milestone. Despite that the team managed to post a fighting total, with 20-year-old Angkrish Raghuvanshi's 32-ball 44 being the highest individual total from the KKR camp.
Raghuvanshi, who has been KKR's biggest positive in otherwise a disappointing season, combined with Rinku Singh to add 61 runs for the fourth wicket. The partnership prevented Delhi from taking complete control in the match. Rinku scored 36(25).
Meanwhile, the Top 3 featuring Sunil Narine, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Ajinkya Rahane also made significant contributions. The opening pair of Narine and Gurbaz gave Kolkata a flying start, adding 48 runs before Mitchell Starc crashed the party and removed the latter for 26(12) in the final ball of the third over.
Ajinkya Rahane and Narine then helped KKR accumulate 79/1 in the powerplay. The duo, however, soon fell after it and Venkatesh Iyer's disappointing run continued as KKR's most expensive purchase fell for yet another single-digit score. Starc finished as the highest wicket-taker among the DC bowlers and returned with three scalps from his four overs. Spinners Vipraj Nigam and Axar chipped in with two wickets each.
Delhi in response lost Abishek Porel for 4 in the first over by Anukul Roy. Karun Nair also failed to make an impact and was trapped LBW for 15(13) by Vaibhav Arora inside the powerplay. Soon after the powerplay KL Rahul was run-out for 7, leaving Delhi in a spot of bother.
Du Plessis then led the Capitals recovery and did the bulk of scoring as Axar enjoyed the show from the other end. He went to smash a 31-ball half-century and added 76 off 42 balls with Axar (43 off 23). The partnership was broken by Sunil Narine, who then removed Tristan Stubbs for 1 in the same over. The spinner then got rid of Du Plessis (62 off 45) in the next over.
Varun Chakaravarthy, who until then struggled, joined the act and removed Ashutosh Sharma (7 off 6) and Mitchell Starc (0) in the same over. However, Vipraj's 19-ball 38 kept Delhi alive in the chase but it wasn't enough to drag Delhi home.
